Abstract:

Photographs show: the Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara after major earthquake damage (ca. 1920?) -- ruins of Portwine, near Poker Flat (Sierra Co.) -- a house, man (Jonathan Wright) and buggy captioned "First brick building in California, built in 1847 at Monterey" (1875) -- a miners' log cabin near Nevada, Calif. showing miners, tools, and cooking equpiment (a copy print by [Albert?] Dressler from an 1852 image) -- the rebuilding of the L. De Rome Iron Foundry in San Francisco after the fire of 1906, with the Western Iron Works visible next door.
